Overview
PicDock ("we", "our", or "the app") is a digital photo frame application developed by DevDad. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use PicDock.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience using our app.
Information We Collect
Photos and Media
PicDock accesses photos stored on your device to display them in slideshow mode. Photos are:
- Read directly from your device storage
- Never uploaded to our servers
- Never shared with third parties
- Processed locally on your device only
Face and Subject Analysis (optional)
PicDock can optionally analyse your photos on your device to find photos that contain people or pets, and to group photos by which person appears in them. This is off by default. Grouping by person asks for your explicit consent before any analysis begins.
- All analysis runs entirely on your device. No photo, face image, or face feature is uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or anyone else.
- We operate no server that receives this data. It never leaves the device.
- What is stored on the device: the number of faces found in a photo, a pet likelihood score, and — only if you turn on grouping by person — a numeric face feature vector plus a small cropped thumbnail used to label each group.
- Face feature vectors may qualify as biometric data under laws such as the EU GDPR, the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) and the Texas CUBI. We process them only on your device, only after you consent, and only to group your own photos. We never sell, share, or profit from them.
- You can delete all of this at any time in Settings → Slideshow → Subject Filter → Delete all face data. Deleting removes the stored features, the groups, and the cropped thumbnails from your device. Your photos are not affected.
- Uninstalling the app also removes all of this data.
Location Data
If you enable weather features, PicDock may access your location to:
- Provide accurate local weather information
- Display weather forecasts for your area
Location data is used solely for weather API requests and is not stored or shared.
Web Upload Server
PicDock includes a built-in web server for uploading photos from other devices:
- Only accessible within your local network
- No data is transmitted outside your network
- Server runs only when explicitly enabled by you
Third-Party Services
PicDock integrates with the following third-party services:
Weather API (Open-Meteo)
We use Open-Meteo API to provide weather data. Your approximate location coordinates are sent to retrieve weather information. Please refer to Open-Meteo's Terms for their data practices.
Google Mobile Ads (AdMob)
The free version of PicDock displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device information and advertising identifiers. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details.
Data Storage
All app settings, preferences, and cached data are stored locally on your device using:
- SharedPreferences for app settings
- Local database for photo cache metadata
- Android's secure storage for credentials
We do not operate servers that store your personal data.
Permissions
PicDock requests the following permissions:
- Photos/Media: To display your photos in slideshow
- Location: To provide accurate weather information (optional)
- Internet: To fetch weather data and connect to cloud storage
- Foreground Service: To play background music during slideshows
- Alarm: To set and trigger wake-up alarms
- Vibration: For alarm notifications
Children's Privacy
PicDock is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
